Day 9
Psalm 27:6b
And in God’s dwelling-place I will offer a shofar blast;
I will sing and play music in celebration!
Remembering Forward
Repentance [turning] is an act of belief in the future. . .
By making promises about the future, we declare that we have faith in our ability to do things differently, if given the chance.
~from Preparing Your Heart for the High Holy Days
What future are you turning toward this month?
What do you have faith in your ability to create?
“
And G!d says:
Dance!
Dance in ever-winding circles ~
Dance with your history ~
Dance with your scars ~
dance with the smell of lambswool on your shoulders ~
Dance with the torah, cradled in your arms ~
dance with the clarinet, the drum and flute ~
dance with the rabbi ~
dance with the children running sugar wild ~
~whirl them weightless ~
dance with the elders ~
dance with the person setting the food out and the one with the mop ~
dance with the teenagers, slouched against the wall ~
dance with your enemy ~
dance in the center of the circle ~ your head flung back ~
dance with the loves that hold you ~
dance with the friends that buoy you ~
dance with the struggle ~ the fight ~ the invisible night-wrestler ~
dance with your triumph ~ you made it! you did!
”
Can you remember this future, when your weights have been lifted, and you're ready to dance?
Turn your heart in its direction.
Today's card represents a moment of success in a spiritual journey, celebrated with dear friends. The figures in this card are experiencing pure kind of joy, a celebration of love, connection, and mutual respect. While their work is not complete (these cards run from one to ten!), they recognize the importance of pausing to appreciate intermediate victories. Such celebrations provide strength and nourishment for the work yet ahead.
The energy of the Three of Water is exactly what we are looking forward to at the end of the High Holidays: a time to gather joyfully, refreshed and renewed in our spiritual lives and our relationships, with clean slates, ready to take on whatever is next.
Do you remember this future?
Turn your heart toward it.

With each moment recalled, the kaleidoscope turns, patterns change, colors shift places.
The selves within the self come into view.

Remembering Your Future
For today, don’t worry about how you will make it happen. In some form of reality, it already is.
Close your eyes and remember mid-October of next year, remember the next Sukkot.
What is bringing you joy in this memory?
Who is by your side as you breathe in crisp fall air and drink warm cider?
How do you feel toward them, and how do they will feel toward you?
What are you celebrating together?
Turn your heart, your soul, your consciousness toward this future today. And as always, if you need extra support thinking through things, I’m here for you.
What is the future you wish to remember?
